First person to climb mount Kilimanjaro with AIDS / HIV
In January 2003, I successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro while living with AIDS.
At that time, I had been HIV-positive for 15 years and had AIDS for 10 years.
This climb may have been the first documented ascent of Kilimanjaro by a person living with AIDS.

Over 20 years later, the experience still reminds me how much strength and resilience people with HIV have — and how far we’ve come.
I’m only posting this now, because many people since have claimed to be the first.
